ITK in SCIRun

SCIRun support and uses the Insight Tool Kit (ITK) for some of the image processing capabilities, especially those related to segmentation, registration, and reading image file formats. However, loading and especially building ITK is a lengthy process and not necessary for most of SCIRun's capabilities.

It is only necessary to load ITK under the following circumstances:

• For building Seg3D from source
• For building a version of BioImage that includes the ITK file readers (necessary for DICOM and ANALYZE file formats)
• For using ITK filters in SCIRun (SCIRun provides a wrapper for a number of ITK modules that can be part of a SCIRun network.
